Brian M. Schwartz, Esq. is a partner at Szaferman, Lakind, Blumstein & Blader, P.C., joining the firm in 2022 after eleven years of managing his own firm.  His office is located in Summit, New Jersey.

Brian has been active in the Family Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association for over 20 years.  Brian is a former Chair of the Family Law Section and during his term, he led the drafting and negotiation of the 2014 amendments to the alimony statute.  Mr. Schwartz has been a member of the Family Law Executive Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association since 2002.

For his commitment to the Section, in 2017, Brian received the prestigious Saul Tischler Award, presented for Lifetime Achievement in the advancement of Family Law.

Brian was also a member of the board of the New Jersey Family Lawyer and is formerly the Executive Editor of that prominent publication.   Brian’s articles have been cited by courts and attorneys for authority, such as his article “Deviation from the Child Support Guidelines: A Pipe Dream or Reality,” from the New Jersey Family Lawyer was cited in the published opinion in Fichter v. Fichter.

Brian is also a prolific writer and lecturer.  He had been selected six times by ICLE to lead the Skills and Methods Course in Family Law for first year attorneys. He has been a speaker at the prestigious Family Law Symposium in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2015, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022; he moderated the Symposium in 2014.  Mr. Schwartz has authored various articles and frequently lectures for the Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the New Jersey Family Lawyer, the New Jersey Association for Justice and the American Institute and New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants.

In fact, in 2011, Brian was a faculty member in the inaugural AICPA Expert Witness Skills Workshop in Washington, D.C., where he is one a few select attorneys chosen to teach valuation experts how to testify before a court.  Brian was again a faculty member in 2012 in Chicago, 2013 in Seattle, 2014 in New Orleans, 2016 in Denver and 2022 in Las Vegas. He has also lectured for the AICPA at its Forensic and Valuation conference in November 2021 and November 2022 in Las Vegas.

Each year since 2012, Mr. Schwartz has been named to the Best Lawyers in America® , and his former firm had been named a “Tier One” Best Law Firms in America® each year since 2013.

Mr. Schwartz received his B.A. from the George Washington University and his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
